Your questions answered

How is The Monastery funded?
The Monastery is part of the charitable company Women's Wellness Limited and relies entirely on the support and generosity of the community to operate.

How much does The Monastery retreat cost?
The standard, all inclusive charge for The Monastery five-day retreat is $2,500 plus GST. However, in the current economic environment we've seen our community coming under increasing stress. With this in mind we've reduced the cost of The Monastery's five day retreat to $1,500 plus GST. While this does not cover the costs of running The Monastery, we believe that in such difficult times it's important that The Monastery remains accessible. We also offer a number of payment options . Please call us for more information.

Does The Monastery have religious connections?
The name The Monastery is respectful and embracing of The Monastery's history without re-connecting it to religious beginnings. Rather, it is celebrated simply as a place that has always nurtured people and is the ideal setting for a retreat.

How long should I stay?
The Monastery offers five-day retreats from Monday morning until midday on Friday.

How do I apply to stay at The Monastery?
Simply fill in our Expression of Interest form. One of our Wellness Professional will then contact you within five working days to discuss a time to meet with you and discuss your health and wellness.

Do I need to pay for food?
Your package is fully inclusive of all meals, snacks and beverages. The Monastery's personal chef is committed to creating healthy, organic cuisine that you can recreate at home.

What if I have specific dietary needs?
We can cater for most dietary needs. This can be discussed during your health and wellness check.

What if I have a physical disability or special health needs?

Our ability to cater for your individual requirements will be discussed with you during our initial phone call.

What should I bring?
You may like to bring a pair of runners/walking shoes (with good tread) and appropriate attire for walking and enjoying the beautiful garden. Clothing should be practical, functional and comfortable. It is recommended to "layer dress" in the cooler months so you can discard clothing layers as the activity changes. A selection of books and CDs are available in our guest library free of charge for your convenience.

How do I know which wellness consultations and therapies are right for me?
Guests at The Monastery are able to enjoy a range of healing treatments, therapies and workshops. A team member will meet with you to explain the various therapies and treatments we offer and discuss what is right for you.

Can I bring my mobile phone?
One of the great things about spending time at The Monastery is that you can enjoy some time out from the constant noise and contact of the real world. We would therefore encourage you to limit the use of your phone to a minimum and restrict use to your room. We also discourage bringing work commitments to The Monastery.

Can I have visitors at The Monastery?
For the privacy of other guests, on-site visitors are strongly discouraged. Should you have specific requirements, please let us know and we can discuss your needs.

Are pets allowed at The Monastery?
Unfortunately the retreat does not allow pets.

Can I leave the retreat during my stay?
As an independent guest you may choose to leave the retreat during your stay. However, this is discouraged as we find most guests gain the greatest benefits if their stay at The Monastery is unbroken, away from the bustle of the everyday world.

Where is The Monastery and how do I get there?
The Monastery is set in peaceful surroundings just outside of Hamilton. It is far enough from the city to connect you to nature, and close to transportation options. Travel directions will be provided on confirmation of your stay.
