Stunning bedrooms
Our stunning bedrooms, each uniquely capturing detailed, wondrous delights, await visitors to The Monastery. The crisp feel of beautiful linen is contrasted by the rich textures of throws and the delicate finishes of carefully chosen furniture. A mix of traditional and contemporary New Zealand art, and stylish tiled ensuites complement every room.
| Kingfisher Room
The Monastery's proximity to the Waikato River where many kingfisher birds usually perch, and the unique kingfisher ornanment on the mantle were the inspiration for naming the Kingfisher Room. The old fire place, pictured below, with its intricate tiled surround is one of the lovely features of the room and is original to the house. Interestingly, the antique light fitting in this room used to be a gas light, before being converted to electric. The artwork featured above the fireplace is a New Zealand original.

Pansy Room
Light and airy, this bedroom is so named for the lovely picture of pansies that was purchased with the house and now features in this bedroom. The Pansy Room has a stained timber ceiling and lovely leadlight glass features. The antique-style brass bedstead is unique to this bedroom, and the only one in the house.
Hibiscus Room
Named for the New Zealand art hanging above the bed, the Hibiscus room features carved walnut bed ends. The marble-topped pedestal table is a lovely feature. Interestingly, the windows in this bedroom are double hung, sliding up into the wall cavity so that when they are fully open you can walk out onto the verandah.

Pheasant Room
Its striking curtains, made from imported French fabric featuring pheasants were the origin for naming this bedroom. The centrepiece of this room is its stunning stained glass window. Gracing the bedroom's ensuite, the window was relocated during renovations from what is now the formal lounge. The bed ends are antique mahogany.
